SACRAMENTO, CA — Roni Deutch, a Sacramento
tax lawyer who provides tax advice frequently on
several national television news programs, has engaged
in a “heartless scheme” to swindle thousands
of dollars from people with tax collection problems,
California Attorney General Edmund G. Brown said
in a $34 million lawsuit filed against Deutch and
her company Aug. 23 (California v. Deutch, Cal. Super.
Ct., civil complaint and request for preliminary
injunction filed 8/23/10).

JK Harris airs a national TV ad campaign promising
consumers it can settle consumers' debt with the
IRS for "pennies on the dollar." Eighteen
states sued, claiming the ads are deceptive. In a
settlement J.K. Harris has agreed to stop misleading
consumers about its services and to pay $1.5 million
in restitution.
